One of the best ways to get the most out of your therapy experience is to discuss your experience… with your therapist. It can feel uncomfortable and even a little mortifying to open up about what’s working and what isn’t. That’s totally understandable — but your therapist isn’t a mind reader! By practicing advocating for yourself and naming what you need, you develop direct communication skills that will support not only the relationship you have with your therapist, but the relationships you have elsewhere, too. Not sure where to start? We’re offering up some scripts for you to tweak and try, with the hopes that this gives you and your therapist a strong starting point. Want more guidance around why therapy isn’t helping? Check out the blog post linked below for some of the common reasons why therapy doesn’t work and what to do should you encounter them.

While "neurodiversity" has become a more popular phrase in recent years, it hasn’t necessarily made it easier to find a therapist who gets it. In fact, words like “neurodiversity,” “neurodivergent,” and “neuro-affirming” are frequently mixed up in the mainstream, despite not being synonyms. These misconceptions are pervasive, even in the therapy world! 🛋️ What may seem like a small error reveals a bigger misunderstanding — and it makes it harder for neurodivergent folks to figure out who will understand the nuances of their experience.  In a world that so often ostracizes neurodivergent people, the last thing you need is a therapist who does the same. 💔 If you’re looking for a therapist who (actually) understands the neurodiversity paradigm, or you’re just curious to learn more, the Alma blog has everything you need to know, from vocab lessons to affirming care checklists.

"When looking for a therapist, you’ll probably find a good many who don’t accept insurance. But many health plans cover therapy. In fact, if you have health insurance, you can probably use it to find an affordable therapist — or even, free therapy." Visit the Alma blog to figure out what your insurance covers, and develop an understanding of what health insurance is, and how it works. https://lnkd.in/et4NJpDG
