Meet Allen from Kampala, Uganda. After an accident impacted her mobility, our partnership with Finance Trust Bank Uganda allowed her to access micro-insurance for hospital fees and medical costs. In a country where 30% of people live in poverty, injuries can be devastating, particularly for women entrepreneurs, who businesses are more likely to be liquidated in a time of crises vs. their male counterparts. In India, the power of a gender-intentional digital public infrastructure has been evident in government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which celebrates its 10th anniversary today and stands as a testament to India's commitment to #FinancialInclusion. We partnered with public sector banks in 21 Indian states to bring this savings solution to over 14.5 million women. By focusing on the specific needs of #women, we expanded its offerings to include insurance, pensions, and credit, helping women access a broader range of financial services. Women's financial inclusion is not only an economic imperative, but also an accelerator of sustainable development for all. Meet Sarah Mwanthi, a resilient #entrepreneur who took a leap of faith during the the global pandemic to start her own business in Thika, Kenya. #WomenEntrepreneurs in Kenya face unique challenges, including limited access to traditional loans due to lack of collateral. With the support of Women's World Banking Asset Management (WAM) portfolio company Pezesha, a woman-founded fintech in Kenya, Sarah secured low-interest loans that have helped her overcome cash flow issues, diversify her product offerings, and serve a larger customer base. Pezesha's #digital credit solutions, designed specifically for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) run by women, have been a game-changer for Sarah and many others like her.
