Happy Women’s Equality Day! Today, we honor the trailblazing women who fought for equality, amplifying the voices of women everywhere. Women’s Equality Day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment, a monumental step forward in securing the right to vote for women in the U.S. While we celebrate this victory, we recognize that the journey for true equality continues. In the field of behavior analysis, we strive for a future where women’s voices are not just heard but lead the way—where every woman, regardless of background, has equal access to opportunities, respect, and recognition. At the Women in Behavior Analysis, we champion this mission year-round by supporting and creating spaces for female empowerment, leadership, and connection. Let’s continue pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and inspiring change together. #WomensEqualityDay #WIBA #BreakingBarriers #EmpoweredWomen #WomenInLeadership #EqualityForAll #WomenInBehaviorAnalysis #LeadingTheWay

Chief Clinical Officer Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Doctoral Candidate (School Psychology)
#ThrowbackThursday to nearly one month ago at the Women in Behavior Analysis conference. In our presentation, "Research Informed Early Career Training and Career Progression Program," we emphasized the #value of #learning. 📚 At the end of the presentation and as our attendees were willing, we invited them to form committed actions in service of that value. Small slips of paper with #actions filled the room. Those actions were gathered and here are some of them! 📝 For everyone that was #brave and #willing, thank you. Let's hold each other up as we work to move closer to what is important to each of us. 💛 What committed action are you ready to make? #BCBA #ACT #WIBA2024 #WIBA2025 #LearnandGrow #BCBALife #AIMHigher #Actions #Conference #ProfessionalDevelopment

SPABA Community of Practice Event (SCOPE) 20: Exploring the Concept of Equity within Social Skills Intervention. What is an SLP or BCBA to do? Guest Speaker: Landria Seals Green, MA, CCC-SLP, BCBA Developing social skills can include the verbal integration of cognitive-linguistic and social cognition skills. Social skills are connected to actualizing and maintaining relationships. Social skills development can be addressed through direct intervention practices core to the fields of speech pathology and behavior analysis. Through intervention, there is an opportunity to systematically teach learners social skills including conversation fluency, perspective taking, and emotional engagement across various social contexts. Training in a service industry with direct impact to vulnerable populations is a serious undertaking that must include understanding the underpinnings of equity within social skills intervention. Because intervention is connected to practitioner training, it necessary to operationalize practices and examine our own positionality through the lens of equity (Denne et al., 2015). The equity relationship in friendship is one where communal interest exists and is actualized through balance and resulting relationship maintenance (Forsythe & Ledbetter, 2015). With an equity mindset, there is the opportunity to extend social skills instruction towards the relational maintenance and outcomes (Forsythe & Ledbetter, 2015). By embracing equity as a critical feature in social skills intervention, we can interrogate instructional design, personnel preparation, and intervention in readying persons with autism for equitable relationships. The objectives developed will address: (1) Personnel preparation for the SLP and Behavior Analyst within social skills intervention practices (2) Cultural responsibility and equity within social skills intervention. WHEN: Tuesday, Sep 10, 2024, 07:00 PM - 8:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) COST: FREE Event REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED: https://lnkd.in/eYYvcYEX ################################################## If you are not a member of SPABA for 2024, please consider becoming an official member. "What advice would you give to your younger self?" This query was received on a panel (Reinventing Yourself for Career Longevity, Engagement, and Meaning) at the recent WIBA conference that included my smart and powerful colleagues Janet Lund, Dr. Charna Mintz, Linda LeBlanc, and Tyra Sellers. What brought tears to all of our eyes was Tyra's response, "I think I would tell myself, ' You are enough.'" Such sage advice in a world that offers constant comparisons and an internal voice that says perfection is the only option. The people you surround yourself with have a significant influence on your perception of self. Find people who uplift and support you, who recognize and appreciate your worth—stand next to them—embrace the mutual support you offer each other. Positive relationships are pivotal to wellbeing. Find your Janets, Lindas, Charnas and Tyras. This is my advice to my younger self. #WIBA #wellbeingwins
