The difference between #mentorship and #sponsorship. The Women Corporate Directors’ Women of Color Pipeline Program in Tampa is remarkable, helping a talented cohort of board-ready executives in the Tampa area navigate the journey to public board seats. I’ve had the honor of keynoting as part of the program for two years (thank you Carmen Bauza, Lauren Valiente, Mercedes Romero) and seen first-hand the caliber of both the participants and the mentors. Amazing things happen when you take the time to not only mentor others, but actively sponsor them. Mentorship is providing valuable guidance. Sponsorship is providing *active* support and help – and that’s why these graduates are sitting on public board seats. Take the time to actively sponsor someone today! #womenonboards #sponsorship #mentorship #Tampa #payitforward #keynotespeaker

Congratulations to all of the immensely talented women graduating from the 2024 Women Corporate Directors’ Women of Color Pipeline Program. My colleagues and I from the Tampa chapter of Women Corporate Directors started this program in 2022, through which we identify top board-ready women of color executives in Florida and invite them to participate in a 6-month long board readiness program aimed at providing education and guidance on navigating the search for a public company board seat and helping the cohort connect to key decisionmakers within the public board ecosystem. We were beyond thrilled this year to work with twelve women who will all be phenomenal talents in the boardroom, and we are overjoyed that two of our cohort members have already secured board seats. Below are the 2024 graduates: Marylean Abney (CFO, Women Corporate Directors) LaTasha Barnes (Founder and Principal Consultant, L. Barnes Consulting) Kelia Bazile (Vice President of Operations, Bloomin’ Brands); Monica Hernandez (CEO & Founder, MAS Global Consulting) Betsy Irizarry (CEO & Founder, HR Contempo) Louise Lopez (CFO, Salute Mission Critical); Ana Malmqvist (Chief Marketing Officer, Front Burner Brands) Mariela Matute (CFO, Tupperware) Amber Okoye (Founder & CEO, Rubicon International, LLC) Sowmya Viswanathan, MD MHCM MBA FACP (Chief Physician Executive, BayCare Health System) Gala W. (Chief Risk Officer, Raymond James); Melanie Williams (Senior Vice President of Operations, Southeast Region, Frontier Communications) I also want to send a heartfelt thank you to my WCD colleagues who help run the program and who serve as mentors for our cohort.
