Earlier today, our Southern Africa Director, Akhona Tshangela, and Communications & Engagement Director, Lizz Ntonjira, participated in the inaugural Regional Networking & Mentoring Meeting for Women in the COMESA Pharmaceutical Sector, organized by COMESA Secretariat. WomenLift Health reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women leaders in the pharmaceutical sector, emphasizing the urgent need to address gender issues and reimagine leadership to create inclusive environments where diverse leaders can excel and drive #GlobalHealth progress. On the first day of this two-day event, which brought together representatives from 11 member states, Akhona moderated an insightful panel on the challenges faced by women leaders and the crucial need to prioritize gender issues in the pharmaceutical industry. The panel featured Lizz Ntonjira, Bridgette Nyangara (Commercial Sales Coordinator at Marie Stopes Kenya and 2024 East Africa Leadership Journey Cohort member), and Dr. Jelita Chinyonga (Health Desk Advisor at COMESA Secretariat).

What does it mean to be a woman leader? In the past few months of the WomenLift Health East Africa Signature fellowship, this is a question I have dwelt in a lot. My own personal goal has been to discover and build who I am as a leader - as a woman of course, yet that is just one facet of my self, and I want to bring the best of every facet of me into my leadership. The journey of self discovery, sisterhood and safe space, coaching, and mentoring that is the WLH fellowship is helping to refine all of my thinking on that, my choices, my confidence, my contribution.
