Creating A World Where All Women Are Financially Empowered

About us

OUR MISSION We empower girls and women to improve their financial health to create a more secure future for their families and communities. OUR VISION We envision a world in which all women have a financially stable life. OUR HISTORY Founding Mothers, Anita Saville & Kathy Brough, first discussed a financial education program for women living on low-incomes in 2009. As the Great Recession gathered steam, it became clear that few people had the skills to manage their money effectively. Kathy & Anita had worked together on multiple political campaigns & shared a passion for empowering women living on low-incomes. After a year of research, the Founding Mothers realized that case managers don’t have time to help their clients learn key financial skills. They determined that a sustained program that combined workshops & individualized mentoring was needed. “What if we trained volunteers for this”, one case manager said. And the idea for our program was born. Danielle Piskadlo, a longtime advocate for women’s financial empowerment, joined the team as Executive Director in 2019. In June 2022 Budget Buddies officially rebranded to Women’s Money Matters. OUR MODEL FOR SUCCESS Workshops: Guided by volunteer coaches, participants learn to use budgets, handle credit, manage bank accounts, save for larger expenses, and protect themselves against fraud. Workshops include trust-building exercises, success celebrations & coach-participant 1:1 breakout meetings. Mentoring: Personal mentoring of each participant sets us apart from other financial education programs. Each volunteer coach works solely with one participant every week to address her unique money-management goals & challenges. For some participants, this is the first time they receive personalized attention focused just on their financial & personal situation. Small Peer Groups: All Women’s Money Matters programs are hosted in intentionally small peer groups for social support, peer learning, & connection.

Its always graduation season at Women’s Money Matters. Join us in celebrating two recent Financial Futures cohorts! Here’s what some had to say about their financial wellness journeys: 🎓 Fiorella successfully launched her mobile manicure/pedicure business and is already making strides with her first appointments. Her coach helped her budget her income, which has been going straight into savings! 🎓 Cherry valued the safe space created by the group, where women come together to talk about money and share tips. Though she’s just starting out, Cherry plans to apply the skills she’s learned as she progresses in her career. 🎓 Deborah celebrated opening a savings account and growing her savings, thanks to the support from her coach, Ellen. They tackled many challenges together, leading to big achievements. 🎓 Ruth’s favorite part of the program, besides her coach, was her cohort of fellow graduates. Ruth praised her coach, Nicole, for meeting her where she was and providing support she needed while holding her accountable. 🎓 Lumina checked off SIX goals from her vision board and is now excited to set new goals post-graduation! Congratulations to all of the graduates, and a special thank you to our partner, DTA Works, for their support in making the programs possible. Here’s to each participants continued success on their financial journeys! 👏 #FinancialFutures #Graduation #EmpowerWomen

Today is Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the hard-fought victory for women’s right to vote! 🎉 While we celebrate the remarkable achievements of women, we also acknowledge the ongoing struggle for full equity. Despite progress, the wage gap continues to exist with women paid 21.8% less on average than men in 2023. Through our financial wellness programs, we work to empower women and girls on their journey to financial independence. 💪 Let’s continue to create change together! https://lnkd.in/dWwtrY3H
