We are looking at the progress at the Ames Iowa Department of Transportation in today's #TakeALookTuesday! Our team is in the finishing stages of this project, and are currently working on interior glazing, painting and ceilings. We are also working on the finishing touches for the exterior of the building, along with added paving on the North side of the building. The scope of the project includes a complete remodel, including all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Additionally, the project includes improvements to the building façade and the addition of a new parking lot. #WoodruffConstruction

Congrats to all of our double-digit anniversaries for the month of August! In the Central region we have Noe on the concrete crew with 18 years, and construction craftsperson Cheo hitting 10 years! In the East region, we celebrate our East Field Operations Manager Tony with 16 years, and superintendents Jeff Kress and Nick Beier at 11 and 10 years, respectively. ✨Employee Spotlight ✨ Shawna Knifper, East Region Admin Shawna grew up in Iowa City, and returned to the area after attending Winona State University in Minnesota. She and her husband have two children. Previously, she worked for a plumbers supply company helping people pick out plumbing fixtures for their new construction or remodel projects, and prior to that she held several roles at Pediatric Associates. Shawna joined the Woodruff team in June of 2023. She was looking for something different, and had always enjoyed working with a variety of people on the residential side of construction. "When I saw the opening at Woodruff, I thought that might be a good fit," she said. As the East Region admin, Shawna likes being part of the bidding process on projects, and seeing it through to projects starting. "There is so much that goes into this and several hands to help make it a success," she said. "I also enjoy being part of planning and delivering on all the different ways Woodruff contributes to the communities across Iowa." Soon though, she will be making a role change and jumping into the Business Developer Coordinator role. She is looking forward to building relationships with many new people, and assist in keeping Woodruff's radar very full. Shawna's goals for herself professionally include bettering herself in any ways possible, to help make an impact on the future of the company. Family and Purpose are her top Core Values. "Family, because mine at home is everything to me and I really do feel like when I’m at work I am part of a huge family and we all help each other out and make it a great place to be," she said. "Purpose, because I feel that it is important that everything you do, you know that it is for a reason and can visualize it being a small part of making something much bigger." "I love working for Woodruff! My favorite reasons why are that they treat their employees great, make them feel valued and it’s amazing to me how much they do for the community," Shawna said. Woodruff is looking to fill a preconstruction manager role on our growing team of employee-owners. This person will serve both our East Region in Tiffin, and Northeast Region in Waterloo. This position is responsible for developing, improving and leading the preconstruction process for design-build and construction manager at-risk projects. They will serve as the team/company expert as it relates to pre-construction contracting & estimating. Our Central Region in Ames is excited to announce that we have been awarded a project at the City of Ames, Iowa Water Pollution Control Facility, as the lowest bidding contractor. Woodruff, along with the project engineer Strand Associates, Inc.®, will soon begin conversions to make the plant compliant with the Iowa DNR's 'Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy' adopted in 2013, which aims to reduce nutrients in Iowa waters and the Gulf of Mexico.
