About us

XLerateHealth aims to cultivate and grow impactful healthcare innovation in the Midwest, Southeast, and other areas of the country where great innovation often goes unrecognized and underfunded. Our goal is to help early-stage healthcare companies increase the odds of building a successful business. Through our nationally recognized 12-week accelerator, XLH connects selected startups with clinical, academic and business leaders who have the expertise to help the entrepreneurs think through all aspects of commercialization. In operation since 2013, the organization supports startups across the U.S., with locations in Louisville, KY, and Flint, MI.

    I-RED Cohort 2 Spotlight! Dynamiko Pharmaceutics, LLC (Universidad Central del Caribe, Puerto Rico) is developing affordable and selective anticancer compounds that target a predominant pathway in Triple Negative Breast Cancer. "We are interested in participating in the I-RED program because it offers unique commercialization and entrepreneurial educational resources for scientists at universities. We expect to achieve commercialization knowledge in areas such as deep customer discovery, market analysis, product validation, regulatory and reimbursement pathways, marketing, building the right team, identification and introduction to potential partners and collaborators, as well as helping develop a robust financial plan for Dynamiko Pharmaceutics,” noted Michelle Martinez, PhD, Founder of Dynamiko Pharmaceutics, LLC.

    I-RED Cohort 2 Spotlight! Apex Orthopaedics, LLC (Clemson University, SC) is developing a novel surgical system called R-FIX that utilizes rib fixation to correct early onset spinal deformities. “We are excited to join the I-RED Program and will use this opportunity to prepare for our next round of capital raise, identify and complete critical milestones for our line of orthopedic products, and foster strategic partnerships with industry leaders,” noted Daniel Bonthius, MD-PhD, MD/PhD, Co-founder of Apex Orthopaedic, LLC.

    I-RED Cohort 2 Spotlight! Ortho-HAB, LLC (Marshall University, WV) has developed a medical device, KneeXT, geared towards recovering knee extension post trauma/injury/surgery. “I am excited about the I-RED program because getting wise counsel from experienced people always helps push you further than you can go on your own. It is my hope that surrounding myself with those who have done it before will help me push my product across the finish line and into the market,” noted Brad Profitt, DC, DPT, DScPT, Founder of Ortho-HAB, LLC.

    We're thrilled to introduce Dr. Marquicia Pierce Henderson, PhD, MBA, as the newest member of the XLerateHealth team! Marquicia will lead the efforts to commercialize the I-RED developed entrepreneurial content as well as the suite of programs and services supporting life science innovators and healthcare entrepreneurs who engage with this valuable content. With over 15 years in life sciences and tech communication, Marquicia brings a wealth of expereince and perspective. She earned her PhD in Molecular Physiology with an emphasis in Engineering Management from Vanderbilt University, and as an Industrial Postdoc at Michigan State University, she was an early member of an academic spin-out, Hibiskus Biopharma Inc. which was acquired. She also has an MBA and excels at bridging the gap between science and business, and has played key roles in a number of tech accelerators and ecosystems.     I-RED Cohort 2 Spotlight! TalkiTourni, LLC (University of Kentucky, KY), created an automated emergency tourniquet device aimed to improve rates of adequately applied tourniquets outside of the hospital setting. “We are excited about the opportunity to learn more about the entrepreneurial aspects of our technology including marketing and regulatory practices. Additionally, we hope to have the tools to move towards SBIR/NSF funding applications,” noted Brittany Levy, MD, Founder of TalkiTourni, LLC.

    In connection with our “Female Founders to Watch” series, we are delighted to feature XLH 2022 Alum Cindy Bauer, BSN, RN BSN, RN as the first in the series. Coordinista is a nurse designed workflow automation and management software tool for clinicians delivering home-based care to high-acuity and high-risk populations. The platform features customized automated care delivery workflows, multi-factor geo caseload assignments, intelligent scheduling, discharge and transfer alerts, real time performance metrics and more. Coordinista has raised over $800,000 in dilutive and non-dilutive capital. In addition to forming two strategic partnerships, Coordinista has a robust customer pipeline and has secured four customer pilots and has four additional contracts under consideration. Cindy offers this advice for startup founders: “Entrepreneurs have to be prepared to withstand multiple cycles of ups and downs. Develop a process so that you can think clearly and strategically during stressful times… maybe it’s deep breathing , meditation, white boarding, or going for a run. Find what works for you and give yourself the time needed to replenish and recover.”
