A survey published last week by the US Government Accountability Office found that most civilian federal agencies are using or planning to use immersive technologies in their offices. In response to the GAO’s survey, 17 of the 23 civilian agencies reported activities involving immersive technologies in fiscal years 2022 and 2023, with 13 agencies reporting benefits from their use. Their report shows that agencies are using XR technologies for workforce training and public outreach, with some agencies reporting a better understanding of data, increased safety, and improved decision-making by utilizing immersive technology. Listen to Federal News Network dive into the survey's findings with the GAO's director of science and technology assessment, Brian Bothwell: https://lnkd.in/dmmHK-8g

Standards development organizations (SDOs) are actively working on XR standards around integration, safety, interoperability, and data portability in addition to ethical standards and governance. However, who is involved, and their level of engagement, can impact how decisions are made by these organizations. A new pamphlet from XRA compares U.S. involvement in SDOs to other countries, building on the work done by XRA's Reality Check white paper. XRA's analysis found that U.S. participation in these SDOs does not match the level of participation undertaken by others like China and the EU. This engagement is not just about keeping pace with technological advancements but ensuring that these developments reflect and uphold the values and interests of the U.S. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gCtYkApi
