My Nigerian mission so far has been a combination of trials and triumphs. And especially with starting a new practice, you cannot do but encounter some tough challenges. When I made the announcement, Some people questioned my sanity But the vast majority of you cheered me on And offered support in a myriad of ways I thank you! But to be frank, as I prepared for the journey, There were times when I questioned my decision Especially since I didn’t pursue this mission because my surgical career wasn’t “working out.” Rather it was quite the opposite. I still loved and continue to love orthopaedic surgery But I saw the potential to expand my life’s mission The next few weeks after I landed in Lagos were all about… Working 24/7, Trying to figure it out, Creating efficient systems, Building a new network, That has led to me to: Consulting on my first group of patients Performing my first group of surgeries Starting the fellowship as planned with one surgeon for now Developing a better understanding of practice here in Nigeria Appreciating the things that work well, and those that need improvements The result: Patients that were previously debilitated who are now well on their path to recovery The process has not been a walk in the park for my family and I. I'll never forget the leap from IT to real estate. In IT, days were predictable. Every code had a logic. Before XSITE Capital, I was solving technical puzzles. I needed to ensure system efficiency. A bug could cause significant downtime. Every day was about troubleshooting. There was a rhythm to the chaos. I aimed to innovate within constraints. But I loved the challenge. My team and I improved our software's performance. The outcome was increased user satisfaction. We had positive feedback from clients. The experience became the backbone of my career. Fast forward to real estate, and it felt like starting anew despite the potential for high returns. The contrast was stark. From logical problems to market unpredictability. Decisions were more about intuition than algorithms. It was a lesson in adaptability. But the absolute hardest part of the shift? Embracing uncertainty. It's not like IT, where outcomes are often predictable. In real estate, my role was about foreseeing potential, a skill that took time to hone. I couldn't tell if I was making the right choices. I felt overwhelmed. I adapted and realized the value of strategic risk-taking. I feared failure. IT taught me problem-solving, but real estate's dynamic nature made me resilient. An experienced problem-solver and risk-taker.
