Thank you, Lindner Center of HOPE Center, Michael Groat, Ph.D. Groat PhD and Mischele Hagood for setting up our tour and presentation. May is mental health awareness month. Mental health needs our national attention every day, every month! Remember all the alarm about the "once in a century" pandemic claiming a million lives? If you add up all the deaths associated with overdose, suicide, premature death from medical illness in the seriously mentally ill, death as victims of violence, incarceration and homelessness among the mentally ill, there is a "once in a century" loss of a million lives every 3 - 4 years! Substance use is arresting, distorting and disabling the lives and futures of 25-40% of today's youth. In addition to compassion and access to care for those who are suffering, our collective attention needs to be addressed towards pressuring insurers and other payors to fund psychiatric, psychotherapy and substance use disorder treatment at all levels of care. Write your representatives every day of mental health Month to initiate legislation to enforce the Parity Act. #mentalhealth; #mentalhealthmonth; #insurance; #parityact; #psychiatry; #psychotherapy
