  • On Monday, July 8, 2024, the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne broke ground on a new Natural Playscape park to be built on the Parkview Family YMCA’s Dawson Creek property. The playscape is designed to promote imagination and creativity, provide a safe place for unstructured play, and encourage interaction with nature. Funded through donations from our members and partner organizations, the natural playscape will cost over $150,000 and feature lookout platforms, wall climb and rock climb areas, a building station, butterfly garden, and a tunnel all surrounded by native plantings. The playscape will be open to all children of the community at no cost; a YMCA membership is not required to use the space. Construction will begin immediately, with the park scheduled to open in the spring of 2025.

  • We are deeply grateful for the involvement of the community in this year's National Day of Prayer. Participants who attended in person and those who joined from home dedicated their prayers to local, city, and state communities, with a special focus on military, media, church, business, family, and education sectors. We extend a special thanks to our National Day of Prayer Mission Partner, Bushey's Windows and Doors. Their generous support created numerous opportunities for our community to come together and lift others in prayer. Thank you for your support. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” -Matthew 18:20

  • Stay Safe Around Water! The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne is providing free Safety Around the Water classes this summer for 500 kids, with classes taking place July 8th through the 18th. Water can be an irresistible place for kids to explore and enjoy, but it can also be a dangerous place for those who haven’t yet developed water safety skills. Safety Around the Water classes introduce kids of all ages to water safety through eight lessons teaching many critical water safety skills, including two skill sets kids can use if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water. Also covered are safety topics like what to do if you see someone in the water who needs help. Instructors will provide fun activities that reinforce their new skills and help kids adjust to being comfortable in the water. Registration is open now to the entire community; Y membership is not required. Classes will take place at the Jorgensen Family YMCA, Parkview Family YMCA, Whitley County Family YMCA, Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA, Renaissance Pointe YMCA, and Caylor Nickel Foundation Family YMCA. To register or for more information, visit https://lnkd.in/gteKv3Fj. The YMCA is one of the largest providers of swimming instruction in the country, and invented group swim lessons over 100 years ago.
