Thank you again for stopping by! 🫶
The Y kept me out of trouble as a kid, and now, it’s doing the same thing for the next generation of San Joseans — for free! I got a tour today from some of the teens who are taking advantage of the free summer programming at all 9 YMCA of Silicon Valley locations. They crushed me in basketball, asked me their toughest questions and showed me the many faculties and classes they have to choose from. It’s not too late to get in on the fun! Mayor Matt Mahan has fond childhood memories at the YMCA. "The Y had a big impact on my childhood. It was a place I could be safe, have fun and be myself." Mayor Matt Mahan stopped by the Y to meet the teens utilizing the Get Summer program which offers free teen membership in the summer. The Mayor took some time to play basketball with the teens and had a Q&A session. Thank you Mayor Matt Mahan for stopping by!

Congratulations Pam! We're so honored to be a part of your journey 🫶 Thank you to the National MS Society of Silicon Valley for honoring Pam!
Today, I had the honor and privilege of being the master of ceremony for the Silicon Valley Walk MS 2024 event and celebrating our member Pam. We have been fortunate to be part of Pam’s Journey these past years. Pam wanted to share with the others how the YMCA has played a big role in her life. At the YMCA, we are more than a swim and gym. We are a community that supports and uplifts each other. Thank you, Tina Helmer, for creating Pam's welcoming and supportive environment. Thank you, Pam, for being an inspiration to us all! #ymca #ms #community

Thanks to a generous PwC Reimagine Grant, a group of Bay Area students are more prepared to pursue college and career paths after high school. The YMCA of Silicon Valley’s College Readiness program included a week-long tour of various colleges in California and a skill-building workshop led by PwC volunteers who shared their valuable insight and lived experiences. Students learned about college preparation like essays and applications, as well as such life skills as time management, financial literacy and professionalism. Thank you PwC volunteers: Hussain Khandwala, Salomon L., Akshat Purohit, and Mandar Patki! 🫶 For participant, Andrei, “Learning about the colleges that we looked at, really made me more open-minded about which colleges to apply to and taught me what I should look for when looking for schools I like. I appreciate everyone on the trip and those who made it happen.” Thank you to PwC and Sonal Chavan Sinha (YMCA Silicon Valley Board Member and PwC Partner) for making this impact possible! #PwC #PwCCare #Pwcsiliconvalley

Congratulations to Andres Romero and his wonderful team at the Sequoia YMCA for being formally recognized by the City of Redwood City for their commitment to youth development and advocacy.
We were so honored to be recognized by the city of Redwood City for advancing the work in the Community Collaboration for Children Success (CCCS) in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks. We were able to share more about what Sequoia YMCA is doing to advance the movement in early childhood, youth mentoring, advisory, and youth jobs. Thank you to Redwood City Together for your leadership. I love what Rafael Avendaño said to the group: “If there is ego, there is no room for a We-go together to move forward the good work.” I’m so thankful to be able to work alongside these amazing leaders and organizations. They are all change-makers. In the famous words of Kobe Bryant, “Job’s not finished,” we are just starting to create a better future for our communities. #ymca #community

Last week, our esteemed partners from GiFT California, who provide monthly trainings and curriculum in STEAM/Environmental Science for our SJUSD sites, were selected as the educational "hook" for an initiative spearheaded by Governor Newsom's office! Students pictured learned and created projects around smart cities, ZEVs, infrastructure, smart mobility, and climate! 🤓
