How to neutralize a boss who is trying to stop you from achieving excellence 👇 It’s often the case that the biggest impediments to improving your leadership performance are the organizational barriers that frustrate your efforts to be a strong leader. A classic example is a boss who doesn’t want to change the way things are being done. So, how do you lead through this, when it feels as though the people around you don’t necessarily want you to make things better? Listen to this week's episode of No Bullsh!t Leadership 🎧 In this episode, Em helps me explore the issues of accountability, staff attrition, and peer resistance. We also talk about the constraints of your job… Every role, every team, and every organization has them. The question is, can you live with them, or not?

Safety in the workplace is no longer just about avoiding accidents! ⤵️ When I began my corporate executive career, the only concern leaders had for safety was to ensure that people working in dangerous environments didn’t get seriously injured or killed. The world has moved on quite a bit since then. These days, what it means to keep people safe (and just how far your duty of care extends) has evolved dramatically. When we talk about safety now, it’s normally couched as SHE (safety, health and the environment), and it covers everything from personal wellbeing, physical and mental health, and psychological safety, right through to ensuring a company leaves the smallest possible footprint on the communities in which it operates. In this week’s episode of No Bullsh!t Leadership, I’m taking a fly across the top of the safety domain, and talking about the role that you play as a leader in keeping your people safe — physically, mentally, and psychologically. 🎙️🎧 Listen to the episode now on your favorite podcast player or right here: https://lnkd.in/epsWfrhE

As you move into more senior roles, your ability to identify and influence key stakeholders becomes increasingly important. If you don’t pay attention, your relationships are likely to be chaotic and unpredictable — and this directly impacts your performance! The best leaders do the work to master their stakeholder ecosystem, taking it from chaos and unpredictability to control and alignment. In this week’s podcast episode, I’m showing you exactly how to do this. I explain how to avoid the pressures, the politics, and the failures that ultimately eventuate when relationships are left to chance. I walk you through how to identify and classify your key stakeholders, how to build their trust, and how to make every engagement deliberate and methodical. I also give you some strategies for escalation, which I know you’ll find incredibly useful! 🎙️🎧 Listen to the episode here: https://lnkd.in/gtUBTd6Y

👎 This year, I had an epic fail... After almost 62 years on this planet, you’d think I’d know better – and I kind of do – but it doesn’t mean I always get it right! I tend to think of my life like a bunch of spinning plates. Like everyone, I’ve got a lot of plates in the air at any one time, and my habit is to concentrate my energy on one plate in particular, at any given point. When one of the other plates is about to fall, I rush over and give it the attention it needs. And, very occasionally, a plate falls. I’ve had many different stages in my life where my focus has shifted from one thing to another: 👉 After six years in an all-boys Catholic boarding school, I focused on my social growth and personal maturity; 👉 I had a significant period when I was ultra-fit, where I focused mainly on my health and family; 👉 Then, when I realized that life was about more than just trying to break the 3-hour mark for the marathon, I focused on my career; 👉 After my first marriage broke down, I was forced to pay attention to my psychological and mental health; 👉 And in the last 20-plus years, I feel like I’ve been getting it right – I’ve been variously focused on the things that bring me the most joy: my close relationships with my wife and daughters; my impact on the companies I worked for; and now, my purpose in this business, to make as much impact on the world of leadership as I possibly can, with whatever time I have left. So, you’re now probably wondering which plate I let fall recently, and how you can avoid it from happening to you? 🤔 I’m sharing all in today’s episode of the No Bullsh!t podcast (Ep #288). 🎧🎙️ Listen now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, on your favorite podcast player, or right here: https://lnkd.in/g6AkwyFK

For each of these situations, I'm also going to recommend three hidden gems: the episodes in our back catalog that are guaranteed to make a difference to you! 🎧🎙️ Listen to Episode #287 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, on your favorite podcast player, or right here: https://lnkd.in/g2fk9hwx
