Get ready… our next DEN Talks is coming up on September 12th! We’re excited to hear from Katey Fix and Hayley Lichtenfels as they discuss The Importance of Cybersecurity on the Electric Grid. This is going to be a fantastic talk—mark your calendars and join us next Thursday! Learn more about our speakers below. Katey Fix was born and raised here in Colorado on the Western Slope. She grew up in a large family and from a young age knew she wanted to be an engineer. She was very fascinated with the medical industry as well and this encouraged her to pursue a degree at CSU in Chemical and Biological Engineering. After graduating she was recruited by Phoenix Contact where she was onboarded as an apprentice in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Here she was introduced to the electric power industry- this experience showed her the unrealistic power demands that the electric grid faces, which ultimately encouraged her to pursue a career as a Project Sales Engineer with a sole focus on this industry. In her role she works with end users on projects to achieve a more safe, reliable, resilient electric grid. Katey spends her free time hiking and paddleboarding with her puppy Aspen. Hayley Lichtenfels was born and raised in a suburb outside of Washington, DC. She grew up in a very tight knit family and was always intrigued by her father's career in OT Cybersecurity. Throughout her upbringing, she would look forward to her dad returning from his international conference travels so she could receive her new challenge coin or cybersecurity trinket from his bag of souvenirs. Before heading down to college at the University of South Carolina, her father had one last piece of advice - go into the field of computers! Despite her habit of ignoring her father, she decided to listen, and graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business Information Management in May of 2020. Since Jan '21, she has been employed by Phoenix Contact carrying a couple of hats. Having followed her father's footsteps and focusing on cybersecurity, she started in the product marketing team focusing on networking and cybersecurity products. Here she managed the mGuard product line for the US - providing sales support, customer training, and product troubleshooting, she found great success. These efforts led her to have an opportunity to support a higher tech, more specialized device that is targeted towards the energy industry. She's spent the past year understanding the energy market, and where networking and cybersecurity applications come into play. In her free time, she enjoys figuring out new ways to entertain her 1-year-old pup, Marty and uncovering areas of Colorado to explore .
