This one hits near to my heart... Ransomware hackers have attacked the Seattle Public Library. 🙁 Ransomware threats are on the rise and with hundreds of security vendors and tools on the market, small and medium companies may not know where to start in their defenses. While there are many important security fundamentals, these are my top three recommendations for SMBs that are worried about ransomware: 1. Enable MFA. 2. Implement role based employee access controls so a compromised account is constrained and does not have unlimited internal access. 3. Regularly back up data and practice data recovery operations before you NEED to in a crisis. Is patch management and updating systems to remediate known exploitable vulnerabilities important to reducing risk? Absolutely. But this is a top 3 list, not top 4. 😊
