In honor of Mother’s Day, I’d like to take a moment to highlight the tools and, most importantly, the people who support me as a working mom. Without the flexibility, understanding, and trust I’ve been given the last ~2 years, working out of the home would not have been possible. I am forever thankful for Adam Zimmer taking a chance on me. Zimmer Design and Manufacturing, LLC is the first machine shop I have worked in, and what a prime opportunity to learn from some of the best! It is rare to find an employer that says “family comes first” AND means it. ProShop ERP gives me the ability to manage my responsibilities whether I’m in office or at home with my child. The gift of flexibility goes beyond convenience, it was the only reason I was able to get back into the workforce when I did. My mom Lynette Kravitz, RN, BSN, CCM has traveled thousands of miles by plane this year to offer us extra help- when school is closed, when we need to go out of town, or even “just because.” She’s instilled such a strong work ethic within me from a young age- I vividly remember her studying late into the night while she was in nursing school and we were young. I am constantly impressed and inspired by her. You can see from all of the letters behind her name that the woman never stops! Last, but most certainly not least, my husband Andrew Shaw, M.Ed. does the most to prioritize my needs each and every day. He has never once hesitated to balance childcare with work, to take a day of PTO when Cora was sick, or to watch the monitor during nap time so I could get extra work done. He is the one that holds us up when we are in the throes of chaos between multiple jobs, preschool, extracurriculars, and beyond. All of this to say, it takes community and resources to make it happen as a working mom. I am beyond privileged to have the support system I do, and as a result I get to set an example of tenacity for my daughter, who I hope one day will move through the world with confidence that she can achieve whatever she sets her mind to.
