Strolling through Midtown Manhattan? Running to catch your LIRR train at Grand Central Station? Discover the Engineering Marvel Behind Pershing Square West Plaza! When you're next walking by Grand Central Station, take a moment to appreciate the engineering brilliance behind the Pershing Square West Plaza and Streetscape. After years of planning and perseverance, the dream of creating an inviting pedestrian plaza finally came to life in 2019, thanks to the NYC Plaza Program and the NYC Department of Design and Construction. #ZOFSInAction was entrusted with the monumental task of beautifying the area and overhauling its infrastructure; providing Resident Engineering Inspection Services. Right across the street from one of NYC's busiest hubs, this project was more than just a facelift—it was a deep dive into the heart of the city's infrastructure. We replaced and relocated underground utilities, including a staggering 1420 linear feet of 36-inch diameter steel trunk water mains and 1880 linear feet of distribution water mains. All this, right beside and underneath the historic Park Avenue Viaduct. We didn't stop at the utilities. The area was transformed into a vibrant pedestrian plaza, integrating street features and green infrastructure like rain gardens. The addition of electrical fixtures further enhanced the public space, making it a welcoming spot for both New Yorkers and visitors. One of the most challenging aspects was developing the trunk main while accounting for the viaduct, underground subway structures, and other interferences. This required meticulous planning and innovative solutions, such as revising the originally designed 48-inch trunk main to navigate low clearances crossing existing subway structures. A special thanks to the NYC Department of Design and Construction for allowing us to support our city once again. Next time you're in Midtown, you'll see Pershing Square West Plaza not just as a beautiful urban space but as a testament to engineering expertise and dedication. 🌟👷♀️👷♂️ #Engineering #Infrastructure #NYCProjects #UrbanTransformation #ZOFS #GrandCentralStation #PershingSquareWest #PublicSpace #SustainableDesign #CivilEngineering #nycconstruction #civilengineers

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our SE810 project in Whitestone, Queens! On May 28th, the #ZOFS team joined NYC Department of Design and Construction's Thomas Foley, P.E., Eric Macfarlane, Tom Wynne, Ali Mallick, NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP)'s Rohit Aggarwala, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, elected officials, and community members to celebrate this milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Our NYCDDC #SE810 project, a $72 million endeavor, focused on enhancing the stormwater drainage system, rebuilding local streets, and upgrading essential infrastructure. Working on 70 individual blocks, we provided Resident Engineering Inspection #REI services, successfully installed over six miles of new storm sewers, replaced nearly nine miles of old water mains, and added significant improvements to the local streetscape. This project, alongside SE811, represents a $128 million investment in Whitestone's infrastructure, addressing longstanding flooding issues and improving stormwater management. These efforts will prevent 29 million gallons of pollution from entering Flushing Bay each year, contributing to a healthier environment for the community. We are proud of our team's dedication and hard work in overcoming numerous challenges, such as working around schools, bus routes, and utilities, to deliver this project eight months ahead of schedule. This achievement not only enhances the quality of life for Whitestone residents but also demonstrates our commitment to sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions. Thank you to all our partners, including NYC DEP, New York City Department of Transportation, NV5, and the local community, for their support and collaboration throughout this project. We look forward to continuing our work in building a better, more resilient New York City. #Infrastructure #Sustainability #StormwaterManagement #Whitestone #NYCDDC #ZOFSengineering #CommunityImpact #civilengineers #nycconstruction

This #ConstructionSafetyWeek, we honor the commitment and hard work of our teams who prioritize safety above all. Safety is the cornerstone of our operations at the #ZOFS team, and we continuously strive to maintain and enhance safe practices in every project we undertake. In light of Construction Safety Week, we're sharing a snapshot from our recent visit to the Connecticut Department of Transportation during National Work Zone Awareness Week. Members from our #NewYork and #Connecticut offices came together to engage in discussions and demonstrations aimed at improving traffic safety measures in work zones — a critical aspect of our industry. Safety in construction is not just about compliance; it's about ensuring that every team member returns home safely every day. We are committed to fostering a culture where safety consciousness is second nature and deeply ingrained in our work ethic. We encourage everyone in the industry to join us in uplifting safety standards and honoring the professionals who make our environments safer. Let's continue to support and learn from one another, ensuring that safety remains our top priority. #civilengineers #nycconstruction #ctdot #constructionsafety
