🚨 Violent disputes over water are surging around the globe. 🚨 The number of violent attacks on water systems, unrest and disputes over the control of and access to water, and the use of water as a weapon of war spiked by more than 50 percent in 2023, according to newly released data. And experts warn it will only get worse with population growth and climate change. These disturbing findings from the Pacific Institute‘s latest update to its Water Conflict Chronology underscore the urgency of the global water crisis as World Water Week kicks off today in Stockholm. This year’s theme – “Water cooperation for peace and security” – couldn’t be more timely.
