    Former Board member for Bethlehem Farm, a Catholic lay community in rural West Virgnia whose mission is based on the four gospel cornerstones of simplicity, service, community, and prayer. The caretakers at Bethlehem Farm welcome over 300 volunteers a year to help remodel and rebuild houses in the Appalachia region, all while learning about sustainable practices for simple living.     Former Board member for Bethlehem Farm, a Catholic lay community in rural West Virgnia whose mission is based on the four gospel cornerstones of simplicity, service, community, and prayer. The caretakers at Bethlehem Farm welcome over 300 volunteers a year to help remodel and rebuild houses in the Appalachia region, all while learning about sustainable practices for simple living. Through passive and active programming volunteers are taught social justice concepts in the area of food, the dignity of work, and solidarity with the poor. Bethlehem Farm strives to live simply and in a sustainable manner, and to achieve this they source over half of their electricity usage through solar power. Additionally, most of their food is grown on the farm, or sourced from local farmers. As a board member I was fiscally, morally, and legally responsible for the organization. As treasurer I assisted the director in financial matters for the farm, including advising my fellow board members on issues of budget, finance, and long term financial forecasting.
