What's the best way to measure an antenna's radiation pattern?
In my experience a baseline is achieved with an anechoic chamber with VNA at the frequency bands you expect as well as corresponding and sympathetic (2nd/3rd order modulation/interference schemas) frequencies. Once you have swept this range (notes on baluns accepted) and recorded the results - and then model for (depending on frequency) precipitation...take the show on the road and set up the test range with the AUT and collect the scatter Rx as well as the sideband and related/expected interference. That delta between baseline and field test should then be repeated with the same antenna from your production line as we have experienced deviations in production devices too. Feedback then goes back into your QASP program.
