    Summer Village Azalea Place

    - 8 months

During my time with IMPACT Auburn, I was able to volunteer weekly at Azalea Place Retirement Home. Here, I was able to engage in community with residents of the assisted living facility through games. Residents eagerly anticipated our arrival each week as an opportunity to take their minds off of their current situations and feel cared for by a younger generation.

    Poverty Alleviation

In our yearly college ministry's spring break trip, we traveled to the Port St. Joe / Apalachicola, FL area. Here, over 200 college students were broken into smaller teams to help work on various construction, disaster relief, and community outreach projects across the two cities. I was able to work with a team that put on a day camp for elementary aged children. In addition to the day camp, I was able to assist a team in property cleaning for various families throughout Apalachicola.

In 2016, Baton Rouge, LA experienced tragic amounts of flooding and thousands of displaced homes and families. Along with Samaritan's Purse and a specialized volunteer crew, I was given the opportunity to work construction relief in clearing properties that had been destroyed so that they could be rebuilt in the future. In addition to working on site, we volunteered with hundreds of other people from across the country to assemble and distribute care packages across the city. This is a…

This is a community that was impactful to me as I had worked some of my first volunteer experience in disaster relief in South Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina.
