What are the best practices for using location based services in disaster management?
5G NR Rel-16 specifies sidelink (SL) communication. It provides device-to-device connectivity (D2D) which is crucial during disaster situation when cellular networks are congested or not working. Rel-16 also introduced Positioning Reference Signals (PRS) to estimate position. Positioning enhancements in 5G Rel-18+ such as SL based co-operative positioning will prove beneficial to first responders managing the disaster.
