Optimizing floor space is critical in retail because floor space placements executed strategically translates into higher revenue and lower costs. Whether discussing planograms, facings, depth, price or assortment mix; the location, access and availability of products will influence your ability to sell merchandise. Optimizing your store floor space to make the experience for customers translates into higher revenue, lower costs and maximizes sales of higher margin products. Depending on the nature of your retail operations, your strategic goals such as maximizing revenue, sell-through, minimizing markdowns, or profitability require strategic thinking about floor space.

How can you use critical thinking to improve E-Commerce?
You can’t ignore the fact that ecommerce is fundamentally grounded in business. You are selling. If you have other objectives - then it’s less ecommerce and more product or information focused. Keep in mind the ultimate objective of selling something- a product, service, idea or something even more abstract. This thinking needs to be part of your ongoing engagement around goals, and losing sight of that has been the downfall of many an ecommerce initiative.
