The influencer industry is smaller than people think. There’s only so many agents and buyers… of course there are new creators born everyday but your reputation will always follow you - on both the creator and brand side. I’ve seen many brands and creators with a short sided perspective that always came around to bite them. When there’s a lack of alignment it’s worth both parties stepping away gracefully and with transparency

I think this has shifted dramatically in the last two years. Brands are way more knowledgeable about letting the creator… create. I would make sure timelines are 100% aligned and that there is a very very clear contract in place to protect both sides. From there, it’s a relationship game, things go wrong, under perform etc and the more you built that relationship upfront, the easier it will be to navigate

Isolating what is pulling your positivity down is the first thing you should do when you notice yourself slipping into a negative mindset. Are you overworked? Anxious about the forever demanding algorithm? Feeling creative blocks? Imposter syndrome? Whatever it is, I guarantee you’re not alone - I also guarantee your audience would appreciate to hear what you’re going through. In some ways, I think being honest with your audience about your struggles will bring you more joy than you can imagine.

It’s so important to view social media as a non zero sum game. The creators that are in your vertical are not your competition, they are your community. These past few years have proven that where you see mutual podcasters, gamers, YouTubers etc teaming up in real life, bringing each other on their shows and so on. They dramatically amplify each others’ audience. Ironically if you treat your fellow creators like competition, it will isolate you.

I think there are universal formats and content tempos that are absolutely known to keep your audience engaged. If you’re following those and you’re still having trouble… I wouldn’t overthink it. 99% of your favorite creators made content for YEARS without recognition, seemingly yelling into the void until it called back. Keep at it!

Social media is a living super-organism that requires consistency in posting but also in content value. What does that really mean? Consumers of your content see you in a very specific vertical, that doesn’t mean you have to stay in that vertical but it will be their expectation. This is also why it is sooo important to make sure YOU love making your own content. Does it inspire you? Does it peak your curiosities? If it doesn’t, I recommend pivoting until you find that vertical that brings you joy. Otherwise, your content vertical will pull your creative motivations from you.
