Activities and Societies: 2015-2016 President of the Black Graduated Student Association

Currently, we must either complete a energy audit or install hardware in a home to identify the specific energy efficiency measure that will most reduce the home's energy consumption. My research centers around determining the feasibility of utilizing 15min electric data and 30min weather data to accurately identify energy saving opportunities within a home. If possible, this field of research could eventually have a significant impact on energy efficiency programs. Similar to oncologists…

My research centers around determining the feasibility of utilizing 15min electric data and 30min weather data to accurately identify energy saving opportunities within a home. If possible, this field of research could eventually have a significant impact on energy efficiency programs. Similar to oncologists targeting cancer with tailored treatments, energy efficiency program managers would be able to target home's that would most benefit from their intervention by simply analyzing the home's electric load profile.

Activities and Societies: 2014-2015 Vice-President of the Black Graduate Student Association

The program educated me in construction management, smart buildings, life cycle assessment, sustainable building systems, integration of building systems and accounting. Additionally, I developed skills in Building Energy Modeling (BEM) and Building Information Modeling (BIM). As well as designed a net-zero energy home and net-zero energy mixed-use commercial building.

A semester study abroad program where I learned how to:
    - Analyze organizations and compare and contrast them in terms of their management decision
making, structure and strategy, along with the environments in which they operate. My final report was on the Rocky Mountain Institute and analyzing their likelihood of success with their current organizational structure.
    - Design water sensitive urban areas and calculate storm-water runoff
    - Design roadways and intersections

  • Kreysler Fiber Reinforced Polymer Panels Comparison

This project was part of Stanford's Life Cycle Assessment course, Autumn 2013.

Kreysler and Associates manufacture exterior building cladding panels comprised of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) in Northern California. A previous life cycle assessment (LCA) comparing FRP panels to an array of different building panels showed that FRP panels have lower environmental impacts than any other panel. The study did not present clearly how those values were achieved and under what conditions the analysis was conducted.

To improve upon this study, a calculator was designed to generate resultant CO2 emissions for each type of panel: FRP, glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), precast concrete, and spandrel glass. Users input desired panel dimensions and thermal resistance (R-value). Emissions are calculated using data from the panel assemblies’ raw materials extraction, processing, and transportation to San Francisco, CA. Using a functional unit of a 4 foot by 24 foot panel, precast concrete proves to be the building panel with the least CO2 emissions.
