How can adaptability help leaders manage stress?
We all adapt, it’s how life works its magic across short and unimaginably long arcs of time. And when we find and remove the small limits of our personal adaptability, we can utilize this natural force as a powerful and reliable way to grow organizations and ourselves in meaningful directions.

How can adaptability help leaders manage stress?
To lead with adaptability, you need to be able to change your mind. Ego can’t win against better judgement. Ego is the enemy of adaptability because to be adaptable, you need the humility to grow and change and become a beginner. There is no adaptation without learning of some sort and the ego that worries about looking like a master can’t be a student and can’t learn. In the real world adaptability is messy, harsh, sometimes painful and rarely easy. To adapt is to change course, so if you can’t humble yourself enough and have the strength to change your mind, then your ability to adapt is virtually zero. Leaders who have high adaptability show that type of vulnerability that is a strength because of its example.

How can adaptability help leaders manage stress?
Adaptability isn’t a simple skill one can get some videos to learn. It’s directly correlated to your genetic wiring and self-built emotional range. To grow adaptability you need to take on what Dr Carol Dweck calls a “growth mindset”, believing you can grow and change rather than your potential being “fixed” and limited. You also need to grow your ability to keep a cool head and good attitude within a healthy emotional range. Programs like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and counseling can help you assess your emotional range and learn skills to grow and stay inside the healthy high-functioning zone. Many of these practices such as box breathing (AKA Navy Seal tactical breathing are available in popular books on growth

How can adaptability help leaders manage stress?
How adaptable you become will determine how high you will rise and the size of the contribution you can make. It always had value at work, but today it is perhaps the number one must-have for success, because if you cannot adapt to the many changing needs of industry or your role, then you’re sure to fail. Change is happening always but with Adaptability it will become your advantage. A good bedfellow to keep close.
