What are the most effective strategies for promoting social justice in youth leadership programs?
Listen, trust and follow young people ... that's the key. They have an important perspective we all need. Our job isn't to lead youth but to follow youth. And invest in their leadership, their ideas, their vision, their approach. And stop saying "leaders of tomorrow" when we need their leadership TODAY! A 15 year old with a phone and wifi can reach more people in a split second than Gandhi, MLK and Cesar Chavez could in their iconic lifetimes combined. Our job as elders is to encourage, connect, invest and allow them to figure things out. We also can provide guidance but only in a way that supports their ideas and priorities. Remember that you can't be too risk averse or patient in making social change. Dale!
