How do you design mechanical engineering products for low cost and easy manufacturing?
I believe in the design for manufacturing principles of using as many common parts, like fasteners, as possible to reduce cost. In addition, try not use a material that is stronger than what is necessary (i.e. use anodized aluminum instead of SST when high strength is not needed). Finally, use 3D printing as a way to prototype before any machining.

Studied the ideal strength of silicon and other III-V semiconductors on their crystallographically weakest plane and direction. Also studied the ideal strength of silicon under hydrostatic tension and compression.

• Ideal strength of silicon under hydrostatic compression was found to be less than its ideal strength under hydrostatic tension. This counterintuitive result was attributed to the charge density profile. -
