You're leading a team in aviation. How can you cultivate a positive team culture?
In aviation, safety has to be ingrained in the culture. I had the privilege of flying Navy fighters from aircraft carriers for 22 years and many tours. The main difference between good and bad squadrons was this - in good squadrons, people reported their close calls, lost tools, or mistakes. In bad squadrons, they covered them up. And I've reflected on it a lot lately, in light of reports of errors, crashes, or events in aviation operations, maintenance, or production. I suspect that the "bad" can be traced back to safety shortcomings in the culture at some level.
