On March 30th, 2012 the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) received recognition from Secretary Sebelius as finalists in the HHSinnovates competition (http://1.usa.gov/Hau5H8). The award was presented to the USPHS for their efforts and innovation in various Community Health and Service Missions (CHASM). There were more than 80 submissions in the competition and the teams received honorable mention as part of the top 6 finalists.

Surgeon General’s Outstanding Service Award. This award was important to me because it highlighted our team’s success in supporting 42 U.S. Public Health Service Response Teams while helping 2.2 million underserved people through 100 public health missions in 2010-2011.

This recognition highlighted the determination of our planning committee to cope with the flooding within of the State of Tennessee just weeks prior to the 2010 Integrated Training Summit; and the hard work and dedication of the group to identify a new conference site and successfully host the annual ESF#8 HHS conference.
