On March 30, 2016, PES volunteered at The Washington Area Humane Society. Their facility has 30 kennels for dogs, 50 kennels for cats, and many areas set up for playtime. The facility has very little staff as it is very dependent on donations to operate. They get some volunteers to help with walking dogs or spending time with cats; however, do not get many to help with the facility itself. It was amazing the amount of work a small staff has to complete each and every day just to keep the…
On March 30, 2016, PES volunteered at The Washington Area Humane Society. Their facility has 30 kennels for dogs, 50 kennels for cats, and many areas set up for playtime. The facility has very little staff as it is very dependent on donations to operate. They get some volunteers to help with walking dogs or spending time with cats; however, do not get many to help with the facility itself. It was amazing the amount of work a small staff has to complete each and every day just to keep the facility running and this is a 24/7 responsibility. We were able to provide some much needed relief for the employees and learn about what the facility tries to do for animals in need, from rehabilitation to home placement. We volunteered our time to clean kennels both indoor and outdoor, perform landscaping, general maintenance, and obviously play with some dogs. The PES staff personally donated foods, blankets, and toys as well to the facility. It was a great experience to spend time with fellow employees, learn about a local organization, and help those that selflessly provide care to animals every day. Their greatest joy is being able for one of their animals to find a home.
