Statistics is a part of data science, but not the whole thing. Data scientists use statistics as part of their toolkit to solve the problems they face. It is a new and exciting interdisciplinary field. Attempting to claim that data science is merely statisics belittles the many other contributions of this expertise.

Regression analysis is a statistical process for estimating the relationships among variables. It includes many techniques for modeling and analyzing dependent and independent variables.

In today’s crowded market place, with shrinking margins and ever expanding product variety, retailers are determined to turn every stone in order to achieve their profitability objective. Instead of looking at the product related information and carrying out supply chain related cost reductions, we recommend focusing on customer behavior around a product and fine tuning the price. This will provide more help in achieving profitability objectives and is called price optimization.

Supply chain management has come a long way and nowadays, companies run increasingly complex operations systems and deploy analytics which run in minutes to make sophisticated decisions. We owe this to the engineering discipline called Industrial engineering which deals with the optimization of complex processes or systems and has had a large influence on supply chain and operations in the last three centuries.

Bayer AG, a leading pharmaceutical company, decided to evaluate lean management as a tool to improve their competitiveness in the market.

This thesis attempts to understand the system impact of the lean management implementation to the Bayer supply chain using modeling and simulation tools. There are two Ryder rebuild centers located in United States, one in Doraville, GA and the other in Pennsburg, PA.
