    Two Rivers National Wildlife Refuge

    - 4 months

    I work with the refuge director and rangers during educational events at the refuge and host the visitor's center on weekends on occasion. I had to stop volunteering at the refuge because I moved out of the area.

This award was issued by the Illinois Public Policy Institute through the Illinois Press Association for best demonstrating the public's right to know. The entry included a lengthy article on how Jersey County board members were compensated for work on the county board. A Freedom of Information Request for all pay vouchers since the previous election was made and the returned information was analyzed to determine how pay was distributed to members of the board based on attendance, mileage and external board attendance. Also included was an analysis of the county board pay resolution in which a small error created a political divide in the county of 20,000 people.
