“I had the pleasure of working with Brian on a project that involved developing a hypothesis engine to find underlying root causes for oncall issues. Brian’s expertise in developing LLM tuning was invaluable to the project’s success. He is a real pleasure to work with and his skills are top-notch. I highly recommend Brian for any future challenging endeavors.”

How can you keep attendees on topic during meetings?
Having an agenda doc that is circulated beforehand is key to keeping everyone on topic. Similarly, the meeting organizer should make sure that the topics stay on topic. If an important topic is brought up that isn't relevant to the group as a whole, suggest that they tackle those issues offline.

How can you build resilience to navigate career uncertainty?
Understand that there are limited facets in your career that you can control. If there are challenges that present themselves, reach out for additional support. In the event that the challenge is unable to be overcome, reflect and understand your shortcomings and come up with an action plan to address them.

How can leaders address conflicts caused by miscommunication?
First, identify the root cause of the misunderstanding - is there communication that should have happen but didn't? Schedule some time with each parties involved and understand their perspective. Don't offer any opinions or solutions - merely listen. Finally, bring everyone together for a brainstorming session with you moderating. Come out of the meeting with a solid action plan with owners for each specific action item. Follow up on the execution until the plan is completion or revised.

How can you support team members during times of crisis?
Supporting a team member in times of crisis is a critical skill of a leader. The most important first step to do is to communicate clearly that you have your team member's back. Listen to their challenges with an open mind. Don't offer any opinions or suggestions on what to do - just make sure that they feel heard. Afterwards, work together with the team member to understand what remedies exist for the current situation. Plans that involve both leadership and the team member in the planning stage are much more likely to succeed. Finally, follow up after the issue is resolved. Make sure that the process is blameless to foster a trusting relationship.
