AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Arizona Public Service to design and construct a 35-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic plant being developed in Yuma, Arizona. The APS-owned project will be the first-ever solar facility to be built on Arizona State Trust lands.

We were tasked with the electrical and pipe installation of new packaging systems, converting lines, pulper, and tissue machine. We decommissioned a tissue machine for a global undisclosed client and replaced it with a new proprietary machine, including control and drive systems.

AMEC was engaged by Recurrent Energy to provide development, engineering, procurement and construction for a 4.5 megawatt photovoltaic solar plant to be built at the project site in Ajo, Arizona. The Reid Gardner generating station is a coal-fueled, steam-electric generating plant with four operating units. AMEC was awarded the EPC contract to replace the existing mechanical separators and positive pressure fly ash conveying systems on three coal fired generating units (units one, two and three). Each nominally rated at 120 MW, with three new pulse-jet baghouses and vacuum fly-ash conveying systems.

The project features more than 8,000 Trina Solar panels that cover fifteen acres of the university’s Foothills Campus.

AMEC was responsible for the field installation of a new emissions control project. The project scope included installation of a lime processing system, ball mills, flue gas dampers and bypass system with 8 – 1,000 booster fans, over 5,300 tons of process ductwork, two new jet bubbling reactors (JBR) with supporting electrical and control systems.
