100YSS Education in Space, Are We Ready?
100 Year Starship 2013 Public Symposium
There are several organizations trying to “fill the gap” in educating teens and preteens, and sometimes adults, in all areas of education. The immediate objective of this research is to identify organizations which are focused on computer science and proposing why this is important to the 100 Year Starship program. I will be presenting a comparative analysis on the techniques these organizations are using to fill this specific gap of computer science in education.

The immediate objective of this research is to identify organizations which are focused on computer science and proposing why this is important to the 100 Year Starship program. I will be presenting a comparative analysis on the techniques these organizations are using to fill this specific gap of computer science in education.
There is a grassroots uprising in enabling our children to learn in a more proactive way. I belong to one such organization, Wintriss Technical Schools, which has a unique way of teaching teens and preteens how to program using the Java language. Through this we created an autonomous robotics competition based loosely upon DARPA's Grand Challenge, for students in K-12 as well as adults. Other organizations are also trying to fill this gap in education such as Code.org, Codecademy.com, KhanAcademy.org, and many others. Each organization has its novel approach in trying to “fill the gap” but as with any evolutionary process, time will tell which methodology will survive.
This paper will present a synopsis of current non-profit education organizations focused on “filling the gap” of computer science. It will identify areas, within the scope of computer science, that are needed from a 100 Year Starship perspective. This paper will propose some delivery concepts which should interest the “next generation” in the areas needed for a 100 YSS project and postulate on what the ongoing education on a Starship would be like.

Email client display transition
Issued US 9,235,828
Methods and devices for selectively presenting a user interface for an email application are provided. More particularly, a change in the operating mode of a multiple screen device from a multiple screen operating mode to a single screen operating mode, or from a single screen operating mode to a multiple screen operating mode, can be determined. Moreover, a change in the operating mode can effect a change in a presentation of a user interface associated with an email application. More…
