How do you close top candidates in a competitive market?
I think "closing" your candidate can have a negative connotation, ultimately we should just be guiding our candidates to the best opportunities and letting them make the decision without having to push them into it. We know what the best opportunities are by establishing a deep, trusting relationship with our candidates so the "closing" isn't necessarily done at the offer stage, but rather in the days/weeks/months/years that we are getting to know our candidates and well before an offer. I often tell people that I will never, ever push someone to accept a job, but if I have done my work on the front end I usually have a pretty good idea of who will hit it off so I just push them to go on a "first date" and let them take if from there.
