Encouraging Chinese to use clean energy!

According to an article in USA Today, “In China, Air Pollution Report Brings Despair, humor”, “a major study released in the USA found that air pollution from burning coal in North China has slashed 5.5 years of life expectancy, compared with the less-polluted south. The major increased illness rate in Beijing is lung cancer”. According to the article “Exposure to Smog Is Severe Hazard”, from China Daily, a Chinese government official English newspaper, the lung cancer rate in Beijing had increased by 60 percent in the last decade even though the smoking rate has not increased. In the same article, Israel and China discovered that air pollution from burning coal in the areas in north China above the Huai River, populated with 500 million people, was 55 percent higher than in the south. China has tried to move away from coal factories as they look for solutions. Air pollution also harms Chinese society in other ways. For example, according to an article published in the New York Times, in June 2013, “Outrage Grows Over Air Pollution and China’s Response”, hundreds of flights have been canceled because of smog in Beijing. Many Chinese people complain that officials are not transparent about air quality or about improving the environment. However, it is not only the government’s responsibility. Every citizen is also guilty.
