The ubiquity of data exchange in our interconnected world has become more pronounced with the availability of social channels like Twitter and Facebook. Despite their convenience, these social channels are notorious for their lack of privacy and security. Even Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, recently underscored the insecurity of Twitter’s private messaging system. So why is there not more public concern? This can be attributed to the overwhelming convenience of these platforms and a general resignation to their lack of privacy. While Twitter acknowledges the importance of addressing data privacy and security concerns, their recent efforts to enhance security measures still fall short of providing an acceptable solution. The question remains: will unsuspecting users perceive these measures as sufficient, or will they more deeply examine data privacy issues? We’ll dig into those details shortly.

Upon arriving in San Antonio, I was fully prepared for discussions about how the nation is expanding the usage of Direct Secure Messaging, and how DataMotion fits into that expansion. As the leader in secure exchange for over 20 years, DataMotion has served as a HISP for more than 10 of those years, enabling frictionless, secure, and compliant communications between disparate endpoints across the healthcare ecosystem. Our team is highly interested in how we can continuously innovate; as a strategic partner to healthcare organizations, our customers share how they are using existing technology, what they are seeking to do next, and how we can help them achieve those goals. I was looking forward to a tech-heavy conversation overall, with a focus on features and functions that would be helpful to organizations’ healthcare IT solutions.

Even though email encryption has been around for decades, it doesn’t need to function like a first-generation solution – it can be more seamless and easier to use for everyone – as long as the workflow, user preferences and compliance policy are well understood. Encrypted email services have evolved, and there are a lot of implementation options and solution providers out there. So, how do you know which one is right for your organization?

But ever since the introduction of online banking and online brokerage services, the idea of “self-service” has become increasingly more important – particularly in financial services. Account holders want online access to view a balance, initiate payment transactions, buy investments or to check credit account charges – from portals and smartphone apps. A perfect self-service arrangement – convenient and efficient for both the consumer and the business. But every self-service process can reach its limit – and then customers want an equally effective communication channel to get help. That’s where a secure message center becomes a key link between efficient self-service and efficient customer service.
