Projects

  • Balsa Wood Bridge

Designed Basla wood truss bridge that is optimized to have the highest strength-to-weight ratio and fabricated bridge using a laser cutter
Created MATLAB program based on all possible failure modes to perform stress analysis as well as the optimal dimensions of each member in the truss
Conducted finite element analysis using ANSYS AIM on each member to determine stress distributions and failure modes

  • Variable Resistor Distance Sensor

This distance sensor uses an Arduino Uno, a voltage divider circuit, graphite strips and metal contacts to measure the length of an object. The sensor is calibrated using a ruler with +/- 1mm accuracy, and its uncertainty and sources of error are analysed.

  • Ü>Clicker (Hack the North 2015)

Ü>Clicker is a portable hardware platform that allows students to answer iClicker questions from their phones. It uses an Arduino and an RF Link transmitter and receiver. When the user selects an option on an Android app, signals are sent to the iClicker base station using the RF Link transmitter. The RF Link receiver then reads data from the base station and other iClickers while adding more features like finding the most selected answer, mass changing/randomizing other student's answers…

Bricks & Bytes is an innovative hardware platform that allows children to learn the logic of programming, without the language. We developed seven interchangeable modules that simulate computer science concepts, like if statements, with real I/O feedback, providing children with a tangible way to learn how each block of code interacts with another. Each module contains an Arduino microcontroller to manage peripherals and UART communication. Communications between bricks are established using UART with the final brick transmitting data to an Android application via Bluetooth. This project was designed to help young users familiarize themselves with the fundamental principles of software development such as control flow and debugging.

    • Used AutoCAD and PTC Creo to create components before fabricating
    • Used various tools and machines to create parts, including the CNC, milling machine and scroll saw

  • Aerial Assist Robot

As a part of the FIRST Robotics Team 4001, we built and coded for a robot that can throw large balls into goals. To achieve this, the launcher uses elastic tubing and several pneumatic cylinders. In order to code it, LabVIEW was used.
