The core of the program is focused on supporting iGEM founders by connecting them to relevant co-founders, mentors, accelerators, investors and partners. We will do this though a range of activities globally including venture creation labs, mentor programs and an annual startup showcase – celebrating their impact.

I serve as a mentor for the North American region and am advising the newly formed EPIC team on how to build a global mentor program, while also assisting with the on-boarding of all global mentors.

    Science and Engineering Fair Judge

    Tufts University

    - Present 7 years 9 months

    Education

A volunteer science and engineering fair judge and mentor at Medford High School, Somerville High School, and for the Massachusetts Region IV Science and Engineering Fairs. I am truly encouraged to see the passion and innovation of young scientists competing and to have been a part of their experience, providing feedback and technical expertise to enhance their projects and, hopefully, motivate their continuation in STEM.

Projects

  • Biofilm Manipulation (TSB)

    -

Led Tufts Synthetic Biology to compete in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition. We recombinantly expressed and characterized a massively expressed regulatory RNA (merRNA) aptamer that binds cyclic-di-GMP, and can therefore affect the motility and biofilm formation of bacteria. For our work we achieved a gold medal in our track of health and medicine. The gold medal is presented to those teams who have gone above and beyond the standard expectations of research as…

At the request of the organizers, I also presented on our work with policy and practices - focused on phage applications - at a special workshop held that weekend.

  • Carbon Catabolite Repression in E. coli

    -

Investigated potential evolutionary reasons for the development of carbon catabolite repression in E. coli using 50 mL cultures and various spectrophotometric assays.

    Other creators
  • Matrix metalloproteinase protein binder isolation and assay development

    -

Led a project through the initial design and execution of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) protein binder selection for tool compound and therapeutic inhibitor development, designing novel assays to examine protein binding vs. inhibition while displayed on the yeast cell surface for enhanced quantification efficiency

  • Multiplexed high throughput screening of yeast display protein libraries

    -

Completed preliminary development of a high-throughput system for benchtop, multiplexed screening of mono- and poly-specific proteins from yeast display libraries with applications ranging from novel biological assaying to isolation of proteins for potential, targeted-therapeutics
