About the organization/cause:
iACT’s Hands on Housing utilizes volunteers and skilled professionals to repair the homes of senior citizens and disabled individuals who are living in deep poverty. Their goal is to keep our homeowners safe and help them remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love.

My Volunteer Role:
Painted the exterior of the house and fence for a woman in need.

Central Texas is among the fastest growing regions in the nation. But for many of our neighbors, that growth comes at a high cost. The rising cost of housing, utilities, transportation and healthcare leaves many of our neighbors to make impossible choices and painful sacrifices. The rising cost of housing, utilities, transportation and healthcare leaves many of our neighbors to make impossible choices and painful sacrifices. Two-thirds of the people we serve say they had to choose between buying food and paying for housing in the past year. Eighty percent say they had to choose between food and medicine.

My Volunteer Role:
Helped to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Central Texans by working with their kitchen staff to support their on-site food preparation for multiple meal programs, including Kid’s Cafe and Summer Meals. Show less

Junior League of Austin provides over 30,000 warm winter coats to Central Texas Children in need every year for the past 30+ years. As families arrive on Distribution Day, bilingual volunteers greet and review documents for verification of economic need. Each family is then escorted by a volunteer through racks of sorted coats. Each child that attends is able to select a coat which suits their needs, body type and personality. Every child deserves to be ready… Show more

Each child that attends is able to select a coat which suits their needs, body type and personality. Every child deserves to be ready for the daily activities like recess or school bus trips.

About my Volunteer role:
Over the past few years, I've helped to sort and personally distribute coats to children in need. It has been a very rewarding experience to help find a winter coat they love.
