I had the privilege of serving as Chairperson for Ivy Prep Academy's Board of Directors. I'm very proud to highlight the following list of accomplishments the institution achieved during my tenure:

    * IPA Gwinnett was recognized as the Top Performing School in the County for 3 consecutive years.

    * Advocacy and led the communities' effort to ratify a revision of the GA State Consitution to an alternate state commission with the authority to authorize/approve charters and funding for locally managed charter schools.

    * IPA acquired two charter schools (boy and girls) and expanded its footprint in Fulton, County

    * Secured a $14M bond for the acquisition of the Ivy Prep Decatur schools properties. During this period, IPA was also the first African American-led charter school in the US to successfully secure public/private funding. This acquisition positioned IPA to serve as a property owner and landlord for two commercial businesses and a regional hospital clinic currently leasing space on the acquired property.

    * 100% of the students in IPA's inaugural graduating class received college scholarships.

    * Recognized by Governor Nathan Deal during at an official ceremony at the Governor's Mansion for the institution's courage, commitment, and perseverance in advocating for the amendment of the state's constitution to require equitable funding of state-approved charter schools. In addition, celebrate IPA's success in delivering high-quality educational options for students of color and disadvantaged marginalized communities.

Six members from RDCI went on a trip to Ghana, West Africa. The team partnered with African Relief Mercy Ministries ( Founders Faithful and Mary Biney) to see over 400 patients in a 5 day time period in several villages near Tema, Ghana. They saw patients with severe hypertension, infectious diseases, Malaria and several arthritic diseases.

The team returned from Ghana with a renewed vision to serve more people in Ghana in desperate need of medical care. They developed two primary missions: to sponsor reoccurring medical mission trips to underserved communities in Ghana, West Africa and to partner with African Relief Mercy Ministries to develop an infrastructure to train local residents to provide healthcare services to local communities.

The Healthcare CIO Boot Camp Minority Scholarship was developed to enable more minorities to attend CHIME’s CIO Boot Camp program. The program is designed to assist individuals in the healthcare IT profession to develop the required skills needed for becoming successful healthcare CIOs. The scholarships are available to minority candidates who show significant potential to become a CIO, or for current CIOs whose career will directly benefit from attending the CIO Boot Camp program.

Kunney submitted an impressive essay stating that in order for a modern CIO to survive, the CIO must be responsive to change. Likening this challenge to Darwin’s “survival of the fittest,” Kunney’s essay was a strong argument for CIOs to step up to the plate in strategic planning during this time of changing roles in healthcare technology.

Kunney was selected by CHIME’s scholarship review committee based on his impressive leadership, organizational, and management skills. Piedmont’s CIO, CHIME member John Hilliard, recommended Kunney for the award. “I make this recommendation with the very strong belief that this program will provide Christopher with the career foundation he requires for moving towards a CIO position in the future,” Hilliard said. “He has demonstrated great leadership skill and dedication, transforming our customer service organization into a high performance, highly regarded service.”

The scholarships provide the full tuition fee for attendance at the CIO Boot Camp program. Two scholarships are awarded annually; one each for the Spring and Fall CIO Boot Camps.
