How do you inspire your network with a compelling vision?
Beyond determining what vision your audience has, a more critical first step is aligning the vision with what YOU want as a leader. If you’re building a vision you simply believe others want to hear, the audience will ultimately feel the disconnect, no matter how good of an actor you are. The genuine personal alignment and connection with the vision has to be the starting point. And THEN you build a network that also aligns to that vision - not the other way around. This isn’t different than how we know to approach a business and product development. We start by getting clear on our own vision and then we seek audience inputs to bring that vision to life.

How do you avoid common pitfalls and mistakes when developing your strategy canvas and value proposition?
A major pitfall I often see with this is it’s not rooted in brand strategy. Especially for growing businesses, a brand strategy often gets deprioritized. The problem then is that these pieces are all developed in silos rather than rooted in a single truth, which ultimately creates disconnects. So to best support developing the canvas and proposition, consider the brand strategy alongside it as a foundational tool.

How can you build relationships with senior leaders outside of your organization?
If this feels like the same steps you take in strategic planning sprints, you’re not crazy. The key is balancing intentionality and genuine connection. To build trust, be transparent. Focus on shared interest and find ways to offer value - just like you would with customers and stakeholders in your value chain. Look for ways to contribute to the relationship beyond what you hope to gain. Share your expertise, offer assistance, or provide valuable insights. Even with strategic goals in mind, prioritize authentic conversations and active listening. Show genuine interest in the other person's experiences and perspectives. These are things executives know to do, it’s just about applying them to a new context.
