This organization introduced me to a diverse subset of the USD student body and facilitated friendships with some amazingly kind, business-oriented peers from Kuwait, Japan, Korea, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and all corners of North America.
In between my freshman year at Michigan State (2010-11) and my time at USD, I studied abroad at Regent's University London and completed an Outward Bound Leadership Semester. With Outward Bound, I spent three months on small boats in remote, wilderness settings in the Florida Keys, Costa Rica, and Panama. Removed from societal norms, I had time to disconnect, reflect, and discover my passions. -

Volunteering with KRCP involves hiking to remote areas of Kōkeʻe State Park and working with their full time staff and other volunteers to remove invasive plants that threaten the biodiversity of Kauai.
My involvement with KRCP has has allowed me to explore beautiful and remote regions of Kōkeʻe State Park that I never would have otherwise. I highly encourage tourists and locals alike to volunteer with KRCP. Dependent on availability, visitors can receive free lodging in the mountains…Volunteering with KRCP involves hiking to remote areas of Kōkeʻe State Park and working with their full time staff and other volunteers to remove invasive plants that threaten the biodiversity of Kauai.

In 2012 I completed Outward Bound’s Florida Keys to Costa Rica Leadership Semester, a program focused on developing leadership skills in wilderness environments. A portion of the course involved a 100-mile kayak expedition through remote areas of the Bocas del Toro archipelago in Panama, where we provided sanitation education and helped to build outhouses and water catchment systems for isolated communities.

Located on the North Shore of Kaua'i, Kāhili Beach Preserve is an incredibly serene and peaceful place. On a monthly basis, Hawai'i Land Trust hosts volunteer events at Kāhili Beach Preserve to "mālama ka ‘aina,” meaning to take care of the land. I attend these as frequently as possible.
