I leave this LSC after ten years of service. What a ten year run! Two principal selections, new modular units, a new addition, traffic safety, funding issues, approval of a sports program, after school programs, annual spring flings, and more. The school is in great shape with a great principal and administration, great teachers, great staff, an outstanding PTA and an active, outstanding LSC! In 2002, as a Vice Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, I wanted to contribute to the mentoring efforts the YLS was performing, but had two young boys at home and so could not commit. I had started powerlifting and so proposed lifting each year and raising money for Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth. In 2002, I raised $2,500+. To date, we have now in 11 events personally raised well in excess of $320,000 for education and mentoring! On July 19, 2014, I lifted heavy one…

On July 19, 2014, I lifted heavy one last time for this fundraiser and goal was to raise $100,000. Still coming in but looks like we will end up around $70,000!
After a five-year hiatus, I am back. LLAH needs some help for its tutoring program and I had the itch to compete again. Going to try to bring that total, which is closer to $350,000 with people supporting the last five years even with no event, to at least $375,000, or close in on $400,000. Boom! KANB!

This Foundation as contemplated has a number of aspects (being fleshed out to get moving in 2016):
    1) First generation/inner city students – education of parents (especially for female students) about the benefits of obtaining a four year degree from a college or university. When I make visits to various high schools and ask the seniors who is going to school, many don’t raise their hands or when we talk, they are going to local community colleges. 1) First generation/inner city students – education of parents (especially for female students) about the benefits of obtaining a four year degree from a college or university. When I make visits to various high schools and ask the seniors who is going to school, many don’t raise their hands or when we talk, they are going to local community colleges. Many times, when speaking with teachers and administrations, the reason is parents concerns about safety, costs, etc.
    2) Information gathering from numerous colleges – clearing house for the students. I saw when I visited with my son various campuses how important it is to have someone give impressions and thoughts, and the importance of visiting campuses.
    3) Bus tours – my goal here is to work with various schools to get them to fund visits and do them in clusters.
    4) Scholarships – find ways to provide some gap coverage for students who even with financial aid have gaps in their abilities to pay.

This latest Cotter's Corner is a high level discussion of my findings from my book to be published in 2019, “The Chief Justices: The Seventeen Men Who Have Sat in the Center Seat, Their Courts and Their Times," by Twelve Tables Press. The Chief Justices is not intended to be a casebook or a textbook, and is not done in the traditional judicial biography. Rather, it is an attempt to be an educational, informative book about civics and the third branch of our national government. The structure is to explain the role of the Chief Justice and then to explore the 17 men who have been Chief Justices to date. While cases are included for each of the justice, the primary focus is on the times that found the each Chief Justice taking the center seat, their legacies, and how the court has changed over that 230 year continuum. We also explore how the court has changed in the last 30 years and what influences have contributed to that change. One conclusion about what has changed most recently is the extreme politicization of the nomination process and also of the Court, reflecting to a large degree the deeply divided partisanship that has become a major thread of our nation’s fabric. The Court has become politicized. With the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, who on occasion bridged the red and blue justices, there is no individual on the right on the Supreme Court (or soon to be confirmed) who will come across except in the most limited of circumstances, which is an unusual situation. #SCOTUS @scotus @judicialbiography #Judicial Biography.
