    Activities and Societies: Knight CUNY-J Fellow

    The program was made possible thanks to a generous John S. and James L. Knight Foundation grant. The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism houses this diversity initiative; its goal is to address under-representation in U.S. newsrooms and build a stronger pipeline of academically excellent and digitally trained minority journalists.

The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism houses this diversity initiative; its goal is to address under-representation in U.S. newsrooms and build a stronger pipeline of academically excellent and digitally trained minority journalists.

    Since the summer of 2015, Knight’s grant has paid for all expenses to bring 20 aspiring journalists to New York City for two months — June and July — to receive digital-journalism training and participate in media internships. The members of each cohort were also in the running for five full scholarships to earn their master’s degree in journalism at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, if they apply and are admitted to the J-School.

    The Business Journalism specialization focuses on how to follow economic trends, the financial markets, corporations and their leaders, neighborhood businesses – and the impact of all of them on society. The specialization aids in developing research and reporting skills, mine data and communicate news to different audiences.

    Sprout is a not-for-profit organization based in New York City that provides travel and recreational opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities. To offer these vacations, we rely on the talents, creativity and hard work of our volunteer trip leaders. The most critical element in the success of any Sprout vacation is the personality and expertise of the leadership team.
