Dan Goldsmith

“I was two years into my career as a strategy consultant when I signed on as a Teaching Assistant to Professor Dan Goldsmith for the Introduction to Marketing Strategy course at Campus. Dan’s mastery of marketing concepts and magical ability to bring any idea to life was immediately apparent to me and to all our students within the first 20 minutes of the first class. In Dan’s classroom, a Facebook post transformed into a vehicle for saving patients from rare diseases and a vending machine-turned music festival stage became a catalyst for an established snack food brand’s ability to become bold and memorable. It is often said that you’ll know if you’ve learned something when you can explain it to someone else, and Dan’s plethora of marketing knowledge and experience was evident in the way he could present any concept in a way that resonated with his students. One of my favorite things about working with Dan was that he allowed everyone who stepped into his classroom to be a part of the magic. At Campus, many students have had to overcome significant barriers to completing their education, ranging from homelessness to immigration to financial hardship. Yet, in Dan’s classroom, everyone was welcomed and encouraged no matter their background or ideology. Dan was never once late to class, and always brought with him a welcoming smile and cheerful demeanor. In marketing, specifically within the Dolan Marketing Framework we taught in our class, the process begins with understanding the “5 C’s”. Among these is “Customer,” and Dan clearly walked the walk as a marketing instructor by taking the time to get to know each of his students and create relevant examples for each student’s unique professional goals. It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve as Dan’s TA for two quarters of marketing at Campus. As I move forward from Campus to pursue a master’s degree in business administration, I could not be more excited to bring everything I have learned from Dan as a person, business strategist, and marketer into discussions with my classmates and my eventual career upon graduating. Thank you, Dan!”
