  • BoilerDriver Initiative - Helping Students Connect, Interact, Publicize

    The BoilerDriver Initiative attempts to address three objectives with a proven model consisting of four components. Our primary objective is to connect students by helping them find the organization, entity, or mentor in the university. Our second objective is to render an environment that allows student innovators and entrepreneurs to interact and maximize their productivity so that they can join multiple organizations or volunteer to mentor someone else without having a workload overflow.     The BoilerDriver Initiative attempts to address three objectives with a proven model consisting of four components. Our primary objective is to connect students by helping them find the organization, entity, or mentor in the university. Our second objective is to render an environment that allows student innovators and entrepreneurs to interact and maximize their productivity so that they can join multiple organizations or volunteer to mentor someone else without having a workload overflow. We believe that prioritization is key, however, BoilerDriver offers strategies to not only help students prioritize but save time. The third objective is for BoilerDriver to be a university-endorsed mainstream way for student innovators to publicize their inventions throughout the university and with the world. These objectives are essential to establish the proper ambience of student innovation and entrepreneurship. To address these objectives, it is imperative that four components should be accessible to students.

The inspiration for this project is my passion to create a human-machine interactive device in a party/entertainment setting to bring happiness among the people. While brainstorming for ideas during the hackathon, my team and I came across many innovative technologies that enhanced the upbeat environment.

    The Halloween Party Station was proudly made at the Purdue BoilerMake Hackathon 2015. The inspiration for this project is my passion to create a human-machine interactive device in a party/entertainment setting to bring happiness among the people. While brainstorming for ideas during the hackathon, my team and I came across many innovative technologies that enhanced the upbeat environment.

    The Halloween Party Station is designed to be synchronized with an interactive audio-visual application so that the user would be able to use head-motions to control a game while seemingly dancing to the dynamic music and visuals. In addition, we added various features to make the user feel like the application will "react" to his actions. These include: a balloon that will pop at the peak of the user's performance, a 3D-printed bobblehead that will groove to the beat of the music, and Christmas lights which will either run in random sequence or flash rapidly depending on the user motion. For the creativity and novel game interaction, we received first prize.

Our team's goal was to create an intuitive robot which can be controlled by Android devices, Leap Motion gestures, and virtually any computer. Through comprehensive self-corrective programming, our team was able to build a wireless indoor transportation platform which is ideal for use in hospitals, offices, classrooms, and many other environment. This platform can be used for moving objects, assisting the physically disabled, and assisting surgeons. Future additions to the BoilerRover may advantageously include the ability for full autonomous sensing and relative positioning.
